The free radical polymerization of styrene initiated by inifener (Sbenzyldithiocarbamate groups introduced onto Silochrome surface) is studied under ultra-violet irradiation. It is revealed that the type of chemical binding of iniferter groups with the silica surface affects drastically the mechanism of polymerization. A living graft polymerization is suggested in case of chemical grafting of S-benzyl-groups onto the surface, while non-living free-radical polymerization proceeds in case of grafting of dithiocarbamate groups. |
