The article discusses the historic significance of two pairs of eyeglasses worn by former U.S. president Abraham Lincoln. It also discusses photographs of Lincoln wearing eyeglasses taken by photographer Alexander Gardner, particularly a smaller pair of the eyeglasses and its case, and the design and construction of the eyeglasses and their portability. The article discusses a pair of eyeglasses given to Lincoln by Illinois attorney Ward Hill Lamon, Chicago, Illinois, optician John Phillips, and Lincoln's folding spectacles that were developed by inventors John Burt and William W. Willard. |
