Acute hip and pelvic pain during pregnancy result from numerous causes, sometimes requiring a multidisciplinary evaluation approach, including obstetrics and gynecology and orthopedics. The differential diagnoses can range from transient musculoskeletal disease to catastrophic obstetric complications such as abruptio placentae. This article presents an example of an infrequent cause of hip and pelvic pain in a pregnant woman, and offers a systematic approach to evaluating patients presenting with this complaint.
