Abstrakt: The article describes the training, organization and spirit of the ninja. The ninja develop their stamina by going on grueling 50-mile (80-km) runs on the mountain paths around their villages. They increase their strength and muscular endurance by climbing trees and hanging from their branches, as well as from ropes, for long periods of time. Balance skills are taught by performing walking, running and jumping exercises on a narrow tree trunk hewn of its branches to resemble a gymnast's high beam, as well as on tightropes.
