| Abstrakt: | The article discusses the family history of the author, who serves as Chancellor of the University of Illinois at Springfield, and argues for the importance of scholarships in making higher education accessible to deserving students. Details on the author's great-grandfather, James Craven, an Irish immigrant who worked for the Spring Valley Coal Company in Illinois, and on her father, a college professor who attended a public college in Illinois on a scholarship, are presented. |
