Abstrakt: | The article discusses the accomplishment of pneumonectomy in man and the obstacles that had to be overcome. It cites some of the technical problems encountered during the procedure including a smooth and safe open chest anesthesia, conducting a safe dissection in the pulmonary helium and the proper method of closing the bronchial stump after its transection. It indicates that total pneumonectomy should not used in elderly patient with malignancy and suggests instead lobectomy or bilobectomy. |
