Abstrakt: The article discusses former U.S. Army brigadier general and Michigan territorial governor Lewis Cass and U.S. foreign policy during the War of 1812, the strategic significance of Detroit, Michigan, and U.S. relations with Native Americans. It briefly discusses Cass's educational background and training as an attorney, relations between the U.S. and Great Britain during the early 19th century, and Cass's responsibility for U.S. foreign policy in Michigan Territory. The article also discusses the leadership of then-U.S. general William Hull.
