Abstrakt: IN SOUTH AFRICA, THE RISE OF APARTHEID AS A LEGITIMATE RULING SYSTEM IN THE 1950S AND THE 1960S BROUGHT ABOUT A REVIVAL OF THE ANTI-APARTHEID MOVEMENT THAT WOULD DIVIDE THE SOCIETY EVEN FURTHER. THUS, GORDIMER'S NOVELS WRITTEN AFTER THE SHARPEVILLE MASSACRE WILL FOCUS ON THE SHIFT FROM A PEACEFUL STRUGGLE AGAINST APARTHEID TOWARDS A RADICAL SOLUTION - REVOLUTION - THAT WOULD PUT AN END TO THE SOCIAL, ECONOMICAL AND POLITICAL INJUSTICES PERPETRATED BY THE WHITES IN SOUTH AFRICA. THIS PAPER SETS OUT TO EXAMINE THE IMPACT THAT HERITAGE AND LEGACY HAVE OVER PERSONAL IDENTITY IN GORDIMER'S BURGER'S DAUGHTER. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]
