Abstrakt: The authors discuss the study, funded by a U.S. Environmental Protection Agency Science to Achieve Results (STAR) grant to the University of California at Davis, which examines the economic impact of bats on walnut production in Central Valley, California. Topics include the consumption of codling moths by bats, the protection of two percent crop yield through bat's consumption of codling moth, and the contribution of insect-hunting bats in reducing pesticide use in walnut orchards.
