Abstrakt: The article presents criticism on the 1997 documentary film "Sick: The Life & Death of Bob Flanagan, Supermasochist," directed by Kirby Dick and focusing on writer and performance artist Bob Flanagan, his battle with cystic fibrosis (CF) and its impact on his life and art. The film explores the degree of sadomasochist practices that exist in his private life and performance art. Feelings of fear, empathy and horror evoked by the film, as well as the Gothic body as site of art, are discussed.
