Abstrakt: Exploring the research of Portuguese historian Borges de Macedo, the article considers the eighteenth-century intellectual life of Portugal, focusing particularly on the historiography of economic and political philosophy. Topics explored include the reigns of Kings Dom João V and Dom José; Portuguese statesman Sebastiao Jose de Carvalho e Melo, the Marquis of Pombal; as well as diplomat and scholar Dom Luís da Cunha.
