The article examines the throughput impact of Performance-Based Navigation (PBN) to mitigate various metroplex inefficiencies. It cites the development of a queuing system models of the Standard Instrument Departure (SID) or Standard Terminal Arrival (STAR) procedures capturing the inefficiencies and the Required Area Navigation (RNAV) SIDs or STARs mitigating the inefficiencies. It notes that RNAV SIDs and STARs showed significant throughput increases over baseline SIDs and STARs. |
