The article discusses the significance of U.S. schoolteacher Justus Henry Rathbone in the formation of the U.S. fraternal organization the Knights of Pythias. According to the article, Rathbone relocated to Eagle Harbor, Michigan, in the 1850s for medical reasons and based the Knights of Pythias upon the Greek legend of Damon and Pythias prior to his move to Pennsylvania in 1862.
