This paper presents that aspectual pairs were given in various ways in various periods, depending on the current trends in linguistics, while the essence of semantic definition, the lexical identity of imperfective and perfective verbs did not change. The essence of the modern interpretation lies in the functional approach to the determination of aspectual pairs. On the one hand, it enlarges the notion of aspectual pairs (cf. approximate pairs, aspectual partners), on the other hand, it makes obvious that the aspect and the manners of action are tightly interrelated.
