Abstrakt:	An essay is presented which discusses the religious aspects of ceremonies at the royal court of Brazilian emperor Pedro I, especially his coronation. The author argues that these ceremonies emphasize the political independence of Brazil from Portugal and compares them to ceremonies related to the Portuguese king of the time.
