Abstrakt:	The article offers the author's insights on melodrama as a method in the early cinema in India due to absence of surviving films and lack of material acts in the country. He says that melodrama's paradigms in Indian silent film were inadequate or missing for the period between 1913 and 1939, which he wanted to explore. He adds that he found there was no local word for Indian languages' melodrama despite the words which he encountered in newspapers and personal memoirs.
