Abstrakt: The article discusses the letters from sea, an initiative of U.S. Navy Admiral Hyman G. Rickover to personally inform U.S. congressmen, senators, and members of the executive branch of the completion of the initial sea trials of nuclear ships and submarines while he commanded the Naval Reactors Program. Rickover made it a rule to be aboard all of the approximately 130 trials at sea, baring hospitalization. The author details his experiences organizing and writing of such letters while he served as Executive Officer on the USS Philadelphia during its construction and sea trials in 1977.
