Abstrakt: 1989 WAS THE MOST IMPORTANT IN THE HISTORY OF EUROPE SINCE THE SECOND WORLD WAR TO THE PRESENT. THE COUNTRIES OF CENTRAL AND EASTERN EUROPE REGAINED THEIR FREEDOM AFTER YEARS OF TOTALITARIANISM. POLAND, HUNGARY, EAST GERMANY, CZECHOSLOVAKIA, BULGARIA AND ROMANIA WERE FINALLY FREE TO DECIDE ON THEIR FUTURE. COUNTRY'S INDEPENDENCE FROM THE FORMER SOVIET BLOC WAS A CATALYST FOR DEVELOPMENT AND EUROPEAN RELATIONS IN THE YEARS THAT FOLLOWED, THE SOVIET UNION TRAINED. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]
