Abstrakt: The article provides information on research which investigated "Emma," a novel by English novelist Jane Austen, through employing the theories of carnival and dialogism by Russian philosopher, literary critic and semiotician Mikhail Bakhtin. The novel's carnivalesque character, which is extremely mocked by the objective narrator, is analyzed. The methods through which Austen creates a double-voiced discourse in a text are also explicated.
