The article discusses the founding of Fort Rosalie in Mississippi in 1716. It comments on the context of the killing of Frenchmen by Natchez Indians and the Yamasee War with the Carolina English. The author considers the version of events as told by Jean-Baptiste Le Moyne de Bienville, the second-in-command of the French Louisiana colony, who placed blame for the conflict with the Natchez on Louisiana governor Antoine Laumet de La Mothe de Cadillac.
