Abstrakt: The article discusses the history of Sino-African economic cooperation in the 20th and 21st centuries. Focus is given to the People's Republic of China's (PRC) demand for African natural resources as a means to fuel its own economic development, along with Chinese foreign aid to Africa and China's failed efforts to spread its form of Maoist socialism to the continent. Also considered is the impact of Soviet-African trade relations on Chinese policy and the impact of the United States' lack of trade development with Africa in the 1990s on Chinese economic expansion there. Other topics addressed include Chinese oil importing, Chinese policy towards African special economic zones, and Sino-Libyan relations.
