Abstrakt: The author relates how his Uncle Samuel Warshaw came to paint four giant portraits of former U.S. president Franklin Delano Roosevelt for the Ringling Brothers and Barnum & Bailey Circus in March 1942. A brief profile of his Uncle Sam, who believed that painting is a reflection of life and progressed in relation to the painter's understanding of life, is presented. His paintings of Roosevelt hung during what was called the Greatest Show on Earth performance at Madison Garden in 1942.
