The article discusses a study to determine the proportion of students in Australian medical schools who undertake international medical electives (IMEs). The results of the number of students undertaking electives from the Medical Schools Outcomes Database (MSOD) revealed that a large population of Australian medical students undertook IMEs in the developing countries. It also discusses the need for predeparture training in order to guide the students to minimize the risk associated with IMEs. |
