An article on a statue of Roman god Jupiter in Genoa, Italy, created by sculptor Marcello Sparzo of Urbino, Italy in 1586 is presented. The author discusses the history of the city of Genoa, examines the influence of shifting political relations on the statue, and offers information on other large Roman sculptures from the Renaissance. A comparison between the sculptural depiction of Jupiter and of Roman god Janus is presented as well, and a sculpture of Roman admiral Giovan Andrea Doria is examined. |
