The article focuses on single mothers in west Louisville, Kentucky. Single mother Natalie Brock states that most of the fathers of African American children are either in prison or dead. Karen Christopher, associate professor at the University of Louisville, mentions that motherhood leads to gap in wages and research shows the income of a single woman decreases by 5 percent for every child she has. |
