The article discusses the notion of identity in Lebanese art. The author focuses on the artists Sirine Fattouh, Alexandre Paulikevitch, and Randa Mirza, who try to contest social conventions by creating art that presents the body in a new way. For instance, Sirine Fattouh took a picture of herself everyday during 45 days, and added overlaying text on each picture. The three artists are independent, and remain different from the rest of their generation. Their artwork illustrates a will for social emancipation. |
