Abstrakt: An essay is presented on how the tribal defaults on debts resulting from the 2008 global financial crisis would shape the status of tribes in the American political system. It highlights the interplay between the court decisions and public opinion on the issue of bankruptcy and economic rights. It identifies another potential source for policy change, which includes the pre-existing anti-Indian and anti-special rights social movements.
