Abstrakt: The article discusses the history of the U.S. National Aeronautics and Space Administration (NASA) public engagement effort Space Flight Participant Program (SFPP). The program allowed non-technical, civilian astronauts to fly on the Space Shuttle. Other topics include the importance of public relations to gaining funding for NASA, the cancellation of the program after the explosion of the Space Shuttle Challenger on January 28, 1986, and public reaction to the death of teacher Christa McAuliffe on the flight.
