This article presents an overview of automobile insurance fraud with a focus on the role of the acupuncturist in delivering care. The locus of treatment is a specialized multi-disciplinary facility typically referred to as an auto insurance treatment mill. A discussion on common patient treatment patterns, billing irregularities, problems in defining medical necessity, and creating standards of care is presented so the acupuncture community may understand the nature of this problem in greater detail.
