| Abstrakt: | The article discusses the state of miniature painting, or musawwari, in Pakistan. Particular focus is given to the relationship between traditional and contemporary practices as taught at the National College of Arts (NCA) in Lahore, Pakistan. Details on the ustad-shagird, or master-disciple, paradigm used in the study and teaching of miniature painting are presented. Other topics include handmade paper, pigments, and Pakistani government policy towards the arts. |
