The article discusses how today’s brain imaging and neural engineering research can influence future audiological practice and hearing-aid design. Current hearing aid technologies focus on developing digital signal-processing strategies to improve speech intelligibility and speech quality, but are not of any help when selecting speech from different sources. In future, brain-computer interface technology (BCI) may be used to develop a hearing aid that incorporates the user’s intention. |
