About two hours in on his first day of filming the Downton Abbey Christmas Special, Peter Egan - who plays the Crawleys' even grander cousin Shrimpie, aka the Marquess of Flintshire - realised just how decidedly unglamorous the job of playing a TV aristocrat can be.
