Abstrakt: The article presents a study on the significant role played by interaction with peers in the development of several social, emotional and cognitive skills during childhood. Participants of the study were 32 fifth graders enrolling at a public grammar school where permission was obtained from school authorities and parents. Sociometric nomination techniques were used in producing indices of supportiveness, rejection and popularity of each participant. The study shows that interpersonal cognitive complexity's social-cognitive variable is related to peer- and teacher-based measures of social support.
