Abstrakt: The article discusses a rethinking of Shari'ah (Islamic law) in order to accommodate modern Muslim life in the 21st century. The authors discuss the Islamic concept of tajdid, which means renewal, in terms of reforming Islamic law's its positive rules (fiqh) and roots (usul al-fiqh), and special attention is paid to the legal views of Islamic jurists. Other topics include the thought of Islamic theologian Yusuf Al-Qaradawi, social and political influences on legal thinking, and the relationship between conservative and modern interpretations of Islamic law.
