The article discusses the history of socialist Zionism in Lithuania. According to the author, this political movement offered Jewish advocates of socialism to pursue their ideals without sacrificing their national identity. It is suggested that while Zionist socialists enjoyed significant support from Lithuanian Jews, they were met with opposition from both right-wing and left-wing political groups. Details on the relationship between socialist Zionism and the larger Zionist movement are presented. Other topics include class divisions within Lithuania's Jewish community, restrictions on emigration, and the Soviet occupation of the Lithuanian Republic. |
