| Abstrakt: |
The use of short implants (6-8.5 mm) in the rehabilitation treatment has been widely used in places where bone height is limited or in regions close to important anatomic structures. Historically, the use of short implants has been associated to smaller success rates when compared to conventional-sized implants. However, recent clinical studies show a similar success rate between short and conventional implants. This treatment has shown to be a simple and safe alternative for both patient and physician because of the reduced costs, surgical procedures, morbidity, and treatment time. Due to the similarity in success rates, the indication of short implants may be done in almost every case, thus substituting the performance of invasive procedures to reconstruct bone volume. This article presents a clinical resolution that shows the use of short implants in the mandible and maxilla. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR] |
