Abstrakt: The present study focuses on different dimensions of marginalization among the handloom weavers of Begampur region. It highlights everyday struggle of handloom weavers and their insistent competitions with both the co-existing powerloom tradition as well as the other area products for securing hardly their survival. This study tries to illuminate how technology, the hierarchy in handloom organization, nature and politics of relationships within the handloom production system, and the other correlated issues work in tandem to create the experiences of marginalization. It shows how often the local handloom weavers, due to their moderate production techniques, fake problems like lack of work, low wage and unemployment. Moreover, the hierarchic nature of relationships within a handloom organization and lack of resource often force the local weavers to work under contract (mahajani) system. Even in spite of the several efforts of reviving local handloom weaving tradition due to politics and corruption these facilities don't reach resourceless weavers. As a result resource-less weavers are now marginalizing weaving both as a profession and their traditional identity as well. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]
