Abstrakt: The article discusses how a more pluralistic and cosmopolitan citizenship engagement both with immigrant sending and receiving countries and local communities has been formed through organized communication practice. Some of the historical and contemporary debates on transnationalism, assimilation, exclusive citizenship and cosmopolitanism are explained. Different communication practices by Mexican immigrants in the U.S. and Mexico are described.
