The article presents a study which examined the effect of waves on the Magnus effect of a rotating circular cylinder in unsteady flows. Experiments were conducted in a deep current flame with a carriage running on rails on top of the flume. Findings show that the velocity of the upper surface of the rotating circular cylinder in steady flow is in the same direction as the free-stream velocity. The Magnus effect is reversed by rotation in the opposite direction and causes a negative lift force. |
