The article discusses palliative care in the emergency department. According to the World Health Organization, palliative care is the active total care of patients whose disease is not responsive to curative treatment. The author mentions the most common diagnoses associated with palliative care, such as cancer, HIV/AIDS, congestive heart failure, and others. As a practice, the author suggested to evaluate the situation, communicate with the patient and family, and plan choices of care. |
