Abstrakt: The article discusses the development and management of the resort area surrounding the Benbow Hotel (renamed Benbow Inn) in Garberville, California by the Benbow family from the 1920s through the 1960s. An overview of the construction of dam on the Eel River, California, in order to supply electricity and create a lake for the resort, by the owners Burt Benbow and Joe Benbow is provided. Challenges that the Benbow Inn encountered, including the Benbow's relationship with bondholders during the Great Depression of 1929, are discussed. Celebrities who stayed at the Benbow Inn are also discussed.
