As the first entrepreneurial university in America, Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT) has been playing a vital role in the American higher education. The pattern made by MIT, which combines the basic research and teaching with the industry, has become a model for universities in America and worldwide to follow. MIT has become an entrepreneurial university through the external construction of cooperating with the enterprises, the government as well as the military and the internal organizational reforms. By reviewing the process of MIT becoming an entrepreneurial university, Chinese universities are likely to benefit from its successful experience. It is concluded that in creating an entrepreneurial university we should reform initiatively, position accurately, strive for autonomy, persist in independent innovation, engage actively in local economic construction, and establish internal specialized technology transfer centers.
