The article presents a study which examined the effect of age at release and sex on the length of the dependence period of hacked captive-bred juvenile harpy eagles (Harpia harpyja) in Panama and Belize in 2002-2007. Based on the results, the survival or hacking success of the birds is greater at older release age compared to younger release age. The results showed that hacking can be employed for the successful release of captive-bred harpy eagles into the wild, but the method should be delayed until the bird's fledging age for better results. |
