The article discusses the last commercial sailing ships to visit Humboldt Bay in California the "Kurt" and the "Annie Johnson," which last sailed on the bay in the 1920s. An overview of the "Kurt," including its voyage around Cape Horn, its internment in Astoria, Oregon during World War I and its placement under the control of the American Merchant Marine is provided. The name changes that the "Kurt" underwent from its launching in 1904 to World War II, including its name "Deadnought" and "Moshulu," are discussed. |
