Abstrakt: The article discusses how reservoir souring is developed and how its consequences can be anticipated. It defines reservoir souring as the unplanned increase in hydrogen sulfide H2 in produced fluids during field life. It cites concerns of the petroleum production industry H2 which can lead to sudden catastrophic failure and enhance pitting corrosion rates. The strategy against reservoir souring is desulfation coupled with rigorous application of batch biocide treatments.
