The article discusses results of burst and fracture-arrest studies and analyses that show sufficient pressure-containment capacity for a new high-strength steel with a specified minimum yield strength of 120 ksi developed for line pipe applications. Full-size tests evaluated the intrinsic arrestability of the material and the effectiveness of crack arrestors. It also highlights the effectiveness of tight-fitting sleeve crack arrestors in stopping propagating fractures. |
