The article discusses the renewed interest in the functionality of having twin crews in frontline fast jets in 2012, following experience over Middle Eastern skies. It states that in areas where aircrews have to juggle multiple radio networks, no amount of automation can reportedly fill the role of a second operator in the rear in managing network information flow. Such a navigator in a British Tornado jet had reportedly been instrumental in weapon handling with a Typhoon jet over Libya. |
