The article offers guidelines for designers on developing distillation columns for fouling services in refineries and petrochemical plants. The fouling phenomena include vaporization of volatile components, polymerization and corrosion. The measures to reduce fouling and the preference for trays in fouling services are tackled. The pros and cons of using spray nozzles in fouling services are mentioned. The different mechanisms by which a chemical additive can prevent fouling are cited. |
