The article focuses on the Steel Bridge in Portland, Oregon, which was built in 1912 and is the world's only known working telescoping dual-lift truss bridge. It is described as the epitome of multi-modal transport as it accommodates various types of traffic. The bridge's design and construction led by civil engineer John Alexander Low Waddell and mechanical engineer John Lyle Harrington is considered. Additions made to the bridge in the late 20th and early 21st centuries are also described. |
