Abstrakt: An essay is presented on critical factors when discussing avant-garde in the context of Polish cinema and history. It notes that avant-garde symbolizes a pushing of the boundaries of what is accepted as the norm in a given discipline of art or in any other field of human life such as politics. Michael O'Pray's book "Avant-Garde Film: Forms, Themes and Passions" is mentioned.
